What is an Eco Island?
An Eco Island is a man-made island constructed primarily from recycled and reused materials. Vegetation is planted directly on it. An Eco Island becomes a floating pollinator garden a new habitat to grow more host plants for our pollinators. Many of our bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects are at risk because the plants they need to live are dying off.
We use our country's untapped water resources to create land for native plants to grow. These plants are the foundation of ecosystems that increase pollinators and pollination. Our wild bees, butterflies, birds and other essential pollinators are in crisis as their populations continue to dwindle under threat from climate change and habitat destruction. Eco islands create new habitat and hope for our pollinators and environment.
The plants also attract and sustain insect populations and their surface area helps beneficial bacteria and microbes to proliferate. The organic debris that attach to the underside of the Islands are a source of food for fish and aquatic organisms. The increasing temperature of our planet makes it difficult for aquatic life to thrive. Islands provide much needed cool spots for fish to beat the heat.

TAKE AN ISLAND TOUR
Islands come in all shapes and sizes and can float almost anywhere. This helps us target the specific native plants our wild bees and other pollinators need for their and OUR survival. One in every three mouthfuls of food comes from our pollinators.
FUN FACT: The Uru are an indigenous people of Peru and Bolivia. They live on an approximate 120 self-fashioned floating islands in Lake Titicaca.
